Five-SeveN in CS 2: best skins and technical characteristics

“Highly accurate and armor-piercing, the pricy Five-Seven is a slow-loader that compensates with a generous 20-round magazine and forgiving recoil.”
Official description

Overview and Design Five-SeveN

The Five-SeveN (also styled FN Five-Seven or ES Five-Seven) is a semi-automatic pistol developed by FN Herstal in Belgium. In earlier Counter-Strike titles, its model is based on the original Five-SeveN; in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, it uses the USG variant. The weapon is known for its large magazine capacity, relatively high accuracy, and moderate recoil control. It has long been favored by Counter-Terrorists (CTs), though in some versions of the game it was once available to both sides before being restricted.

Performance and Gameplay

The Five-SeveN trades raw damage for finesse. Its damage per shot is lower than some other pistols, but it compensates with a generous magazine size (20 rounds), good accuracy especially for the first few shots, and strong armor penetration. In Global Offensive, improvements in reload speed and damage have made it more viable as a mid-range sidearm, especially when aiming for headshots. However, sustained fire is discouraged due to spread and accuracy penalties.

Tactical Considerations

The first one or two shots are quite precise, making double-taps or carefully aimed shots very effective. Aiming for the head can yield fast kills, especially at shorter distances. Its high armor penetration makes it more effective against armored opponents than many other pistols. Mobility issues: accuracy drops substantially while moving, so staying still or crouching improves performance substantially.

Updates and Balancing

In early CS:GO, it was available to both teams, but updates (notably one on January 23, 2013) made it CT-only again. Price reductions were applied along with the Tec-9 in some patches so that its cost became more competitive. Tweaks to recoil, accuracy (especially when firing multiple shots), movement inaccuracy, and other balance parameters have been introduced to reward skillful play and discourage spamming while moving.

Trivia

  1. In versions of Counter-Strike before Global Offensive, the Five-SeveN was one of only two pistols that did not deliver an instant kill from a headshot at very close range; the other was the 9×19mm sidearm.
  2. Its draw and reload animations in CS:GO are shared with other pistols like the P2000, P250, and Glock-18.
  3. In Counter-Strike: Source, the slide animation of the Five-SeveN is partly broken: only the back portion of the slide moves during reloads, the front remains fixed.
  4. In the game files for CS:GO, there exist unused audio files for alternative firing sounds for the Five-SeveN.

Five-SeveN Result

The Five-SeveN is a sidearm that excels in precision, especially in the hands of players who can control shot placement and manage its drawbacks. While it lacks the raw stopping power of heavier pistols, its strengths include large magazine size, high accuracy (particularly early shots), and good armor penetration. Its cost and the penalties for firing on the move keep it from being overpowered, making it a weapon that rewards skill, positioning, and timing rather than brute force.
